My prediction. In the first half of 2026, TikTok is going to reward one metric harder than anything else. Rewatches.
Why I think that
The last 3 algorithm updates all point the same way. Watch time as a raw number is being replaced by watch time relative to video length. And nothing spikes that metric like a loop that gets rewatched 2 or 3 times before the viewer swipes.
What that means for your videos
- Shorter videos are back. 12 to 18 seconds is the new sweet spot.
- Loops matter more than ever. Last frame = first frame.
- Videos that make you go "wait, what?" and swipe back are gold.
- Cliffhangers with no payoff on the same video will get punished. Viewers hate feeling cheated.
Get ahead of the shift
Every video you make from now on, ask 2 questions:
- Does the last frame flow back into the first?
- Is there something in the video worth a second watch (a caption, a detail, a punchline)?
The unfair edge
Loop planning takes 60 extra seconds per video. Almost nobody does it. That's the whole edge.
Virlo now builds loop planning into every daily video brief. Try it free.
