Straight up. In 2026, if you're under 10k followers, Instagram Reels is easier to grow on than TikTok.
I know. Feels wrong. Everyone says TikTok. But the data (and my DMs) say otherwise.
Why Reels is quietly easier right now
- Less content saturation than TikTok.
- Reels views count toward all of Instagram's push, including Explore.
- Meta is throwing bonus reach at new creators to steal them from TikTok.
- The audience is older with more spending money (matters if you sell anything).
Where TikTok still wins
- Faster viral spikes. TikTok can 10x your account in a week. Instagram usually can't.
- Better for entertainment, storytelling, comedy.
- Way better discovery for niche content.
- Comments section is more engaged.
The play in 2026
Don't pick one. Film for TikTok, post the same video on Reels the next day. TikTok is your growth engine. Reels is your business engine.
Two rules if you're going to cross-post
- Remove the TikTok watermark before uploading to Reels. Instagram punishes it.
- Change the caption. Instagram indexes captions differently and rewards fresh copy.
